IAL students take part in an intensive one-year experience that blends in-person and distance learning with hands-on internships and professional development. Our unique structure allows for ultimate flexibility for those looking to get a foot in the door, or professionals who have an existing position within athletics and education. IAL Program Structure
SUMMER
MID-JUNE – JULY
The IAL program begins with a 6-week intensive summer session on the University of Washington campus. Students take one course per week and can expect to be in class roughly 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
FALL
SEPTEMBER – DECEMBER
Students will enroll in two core courses while working in their internship. Each class will be completed in an online asynchronous format that allows students to complete coursework around their work schedules in or outside of Seattle. Students will return to the Seattle campus for a 3-day executive session in October to connect with classmates and engage in classroom work with their instructors.
WINTER
JANUARY – MARCH
During winter quarter, students will pick two electives. Students taking administration-focused courses will attend the NCAA Convention for class in late January (funded by the IAL program). Those students enrolled in coaching courses will attend a 3-day in-person session on the UW campus in mid-February. During this time, internships will also continue.
SPRING
APRIL – JUNE
Students will complete the IAL program by finishing their internship requirements and taking three final courses during the spring quarter. Students return to campus in early June for a final in-person class session in the days leading up to graduation.
