UW Center for Leadership in Athletics

Million Coaches Challenge

As one of the organizations involved in the Million Coaches Challenge (MCC), the UW Center for Leadership in Athletics is committed to equipping a generation of coaches with the knowledge and tools to help young people thrive on and off the playing field.

Coach Training

We are partnering with school districts and leagues, high school coaches associations, parks and recreation providers, and the King County Play Equity Coalition to provide high quality coach training across the Pacific Northwest. Partner organizations will have access to online courses and in-person workshops focused on creating healthy spaces for youth athletes. We aim to train over 15,000 coaches by the end of 2025. If you are interested in providing coach training at your organization, get in touch here.

Course Development

The existing Developing Youth in Sport and Centering Athlete Needs courses built through the CoachUp! Washington project will be extended to as many coaches as possible through strategic outreach and partnerships. This includes an expanded partnership with NFHS Learn, a leading platform for school-based coaches across the United States. Additionally, two new courses promoting positive youth development practices and strategies will be developed through the Million Coaches Challenge work in order to extend our online catalog of coaches education. Target launch dates for these courses are Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.
