IAL M.Ed. Spring Extended Weekend Featured Speaker: Kamal Carter

Kamal Carter, President and Founder of A LONG TALK, was the featured speaker at the 2023 IAL M.Ed. Spring Extended Weekend. Kamal spoke to our graduate students about engaging in real conversation to make positive change. Students had the opportunity to ask Kamal questions about current racial issues impacting athletes across all levels.

15 Washington State Coaches Trained!

Youth sport coaches from across the state recently completed the ACCEL Sports Coaching Certificate. Participants went through a full day program focused on creating physically and emotionally safe spaces and being responsive to the social, emotional, and physical needs of athletes.  If your organization is interested in working with our experienced coach training team, please email us.

Dr. Julie McCleery was featured on the reformed sports project podcast. Dr. McCleery discussed why kids who specialize early are more likely to develop anxiety and depression in the long run, the importance of coaches prioritizing the psychological safety of their athletes, and why all kids deserve access to high-quality youth sports opportunities.

Three members of our team presented at the 2023 SHAPE America National Convention held in Seattle. Hannah Olson Ph.D., shared about our ongoing work to support women coaches. Longxi Li Ph.D., and Sara Matovina M.Ed., each shared about our research initiatives to increase physical activity among youth in Washington.
